Aaryavir Sehwag Smashes Double Century in Cooch Behar Trophy, Shines Bright for Delhi

Aaryavir Sehwag, the son of cricketing legend Virender Sehwag, has made waves in the ongoing Cooch Behar Trophy with a magnificent double century against Meghalaya. The 17-year-old left a lasting impression on the match held at the MCA Cricket Ground in Shillong, where he showcased not only his immense talent but also his cricketing pedigree.

Aaryavir’s exceptional innings of 200 runs off 229 balls was a masterclass in controlled aggression. His remarkable knock, played at a strike rate of 87.34, included 34 boundaries and two sixes, putting the Meghalaya bowlers under constant pressure. Thanks to his brilliant contribution, Delhi posted an imposing total of 468/2, taking a commanding 208-run lead over Meghalaya by the end of the day’s play.

What made Aaryavir’s knock even more special was the strong partnership he shared with his opening partner, Arnav Bugga. Together, they put on a solid 180-run opening stand, providing the perfect foundation for Delhi’s innings. Bugga also had an impact with the ball, claiming three wickets in Meghalaya’s first innings, further adding to his all-round performance.

Delhi’s bowlers had earlier dominated, dismissing Meghalaya for 260 runs in their first innings. Fast bowler Udhav Mohan stood out with a brilliant four-wicket haul, ensuring that Delhi had a substantial lead. With the score at 468/2 and Meghalaya still trailing by 208 runs, Delhi appeared firmly in control of the match.

Aaryavir Sehwag’s journey to prominence in Indian cricket is picking up pace. Earlier this year, he made his debut in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where he played a vital role in Delhi’s victory over Manipur, scoring a valuable 49 runs. This latest knock, however, is his most significant achievement yet and cements his place as a young talent to watch.

Virender Sehwag, while clearly proud of his son’s achievements, has always been vocal about not putting undue pressure on Aaryavir. In a 2019 interview, the former Indian opener emphasized that he did not expect his children to follow in his footsteps. “They don’t have to become cricketers,” he remarked, encouraging them to pursue their own paths. He also shared that Aaryavir is already working hard to secure a spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL), recognizing it as a valuable platform for emerging talent.

With this outstanding performance, Aaryavir Sehwag is steadily making a name for himself in Indian domestic cricket. His ability to anchor an innings while maintaining a brisk scoring rate has drawn comparisons to his father’s fearless batting style. As he continues to shine in the Cooch Behar Trophy and beyond, fans and selectors alike are eager to see what the future holds for this promising young cricketer.
