Following the Hindenburg report, Congress has called for a nationwide protest on August 22 to demand the SEBI chief’s resignation and a JPC inquiry.

Amidst the ongoing controversy over Hindenburg’s allegations, Congress has announced a nationwide protest on August 22, demanding the resignation of SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani issue. This decision followed a meeting led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge with senior party officials to strategize for upcoming assembly elections and address key national concerns.

Kharge emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the alleged connection between SEBI and Adani, asserting that small investors’ funds must be protected. He called on the Modi government to immediately seek Buch’s resignation and establish a JPC.

The Hindenburg report, released on August 10, alleged that Buch and her husband held stakes in offshore funds linked to the Adani money scandal. This has led to a political clash, with Congress and other INDIA bloc parties demanding action, while the BJP accuses the opposition of trying to destabilize India’s financial markets.

Buch and her husband have denied the allegations, labeling them as baseless and asserting that the Hindenburg report is an attempt to undermine SEBI’s credibility. SEBI has stated that it has investigated the Adani Group’s allegations and that Buch has recused herself from matters involving potential conflicts of interest. The Adani Group has dismissed the claims as malicious and based on manipulated information.
