The Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day holidays have driven a spike in travel and hospitality demand.

As Indian travelers gear up for the Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan long weekend, there’s been a notable surge in travel demand. Domestic hotspots like Goa, Udaipur, Mumbai, and Lonavala are top choices, while international destinations such as Bangkok, Singapore, Phuket, and Dubai are also popular. Online travel agencies like MakeMyTrip and Airbnb report a significant uptick in bookings, with domestic searches on Airbnb up by 34% compared to last year. MakeMyTrip’s Rajesh Magow notes increased interest in southern cities and a decline in northern hill stations due to weather. Airbnb’s Amanpreet Bajaj highlights a trend towards domestic travel for short breaks, while international travel sees growing demand in cities like Colombo, Kuala Lumpur, and Istanbul.
