Operation Sindoor: India Strikes Terror Camps in Pakistan and PoK After Pahalgam Attack, Global Leaders React

India carried out a significant military operation on Wednesday, codenamed Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps operating across Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). This strategic, intelligence-driven mission was launched in direct retaliation to the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22 that resulted in the tragic deaths of 26 innocent civilians. The Indian Armed Forces struck at the heart of terror networks, successfully demolishing critical infrastructure belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)—two Pakistan-based terror outfits known for orchestrating numerous attacks against India.

The Indian military executed the operation with surgical precision, maintaining a focused, measured, and non-escalatory approach, carefully avoiding any direct engagement with Pakistani military installations. The strikes were conducted in coordination by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, underscoring India’s comprehensive military preparedness and capability for joint operations. A total of nine key terror locations were hit, including prominent JeM and LeT bases in Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot in Pakistan, and five sites in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The Indian forces employed advanced precision weapons and real-time intelligence to ensure the success of the mission, which was closely monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi throughout the night.

Following the operation, top Indian officials engaged in diplomatic outreach, informing key global allies including the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates about the rationale and scope of the strikes. The international reaction was swift and varied, reflecting both support and calls for restraint.

US President Donald Trump was the first world leader to respond, expressing hope that the situation would de-escalate swiftly. He remarked, “They’ve been fighting for many, many decades. And centuries, actually, if you think about it. I hope it ends very quickly.” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed these sentiments, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that he was closely monitoring developments and committed to engaging both India and Pakistan towards a peaceful outcome.

Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took a firmer stance, voicing strong support for India’s right to defend itself. Condemning the Pahalgam attack unequivocally, Sunak stated, “No nation should have to accept terrorist attacks being launched against it from land controlled by another country. India is justified in striking terrorist infrastructure. There can be no impunity for terrorists.”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) adopted a diplomatic tone, urging both India and Pakistan to show restraint and avoid further escalation. UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of dialogue and regional stability, advocating peaceful resolution over conflict.

Israel was unequivocal in its support for India’s actions. Reuven Azar, Israel’s Ambassador to India, stated on social media, “Israel supports India’s right for self-defense. Terrorists should know there’s no place to hide from their heinous crimes against the innocent.” The message reinforced Israel’s consistent stand against terrorism and its solidarity with India’s counter-terror efforts.

Operation Sindoor marks a pivotal moment in India’s counter-terrorism strategy, demonstrating its willingness and ability to strike back against cross-border terrorism without escalating into a broader conflict. With a meticulously planned, precisely executed mission that avoided civilian and military targets unrelated to terrorism, India has sent a strong message to those sponsoring and harboring terrorists across the border.
