Shashi Tharoor Raises Concern Over Social Media Follower Count Decline

Title: Shashi Tharoor Raises Concern Over Social Media Follower Count Decline

Prominent political leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has raised concerns about his stagnating and now declining follower count on a popular social media platform. Known for his active engagement and thought-provoking posts, Tharoor revealed that his follower count, which currently stands at 8.4 million, has been stuck for years despite consistent activity and significant engagement.

Addressing the issue publicly, Tharoor mentioned he had written to the platform’s owner about the anomaly. However, instead of a solution, he received a legal response denying the existence of any problem.

“For over three years, I noticed this issue. Despite efforts to seek clarity, the only response I received was a lawyer’s letter flatly denying any issue. So much for corporate responsiveness,” Tharoor remarked in his statement.

He detailed that the situation was first observed during the platform’s previous ownership when a source had reviewed his statistics over six months. According to the data, his follower count appeared to grow daily by over 1,000 new followers, with 60-70 users unfollowing daily. However, the overall count remained stagnant, refusing to cross a certain threshold.

Tharoor speculated that this could be due to an algorithmic glitch or potential shadow-banning. He explained that his account is rarely suggested to new users, and many of his followers have reported not seeing his posts on their timelines.

Since raising the issue, Tharoor claimed his follower count has begun dropping steadily. “From a peak of 8.495 million, it has now declined to 8.429 million. Clearly, something is wrong, but it seems those responsible are indifferent,” he shared.

He expressed frustration over the lack of accountability from the platform’s management, noting that addressing the issue feels petty in the broader scheme of public concerns but necessary given its persistence.

Tharoor concluded his statement by appealing for attention to this matter while tempering expectations. “Perhaps by laying out the facts, someone responsible will take notice—but I am not holding my breath,” he said.
