Suniel Shetty Supports Aamir Khan Despite Boycott Calls for Sitaare Zameen Par Controversy
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is gearing up for a major comeback with his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual sequel to the critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par. However, even before its release, the film has found itself at the center of controversy, facing boycott calls from certain sections of the public. The uproar began after Aamir’s congratulatory message for the ‘heroes of Operation Sindoor’ was perceived as delayed and was released on the same day as the film’s trailer. This triggered criticism online, with many questioning the actor’s sincerity and timing. Fuel was added to the fire when an old photograph from 2017 resurfaced on social media, showing Aamir Khan shaking hands with the Turkish president during a visit to Turkey—an image that has once again put the actor under public scrutiny.
In response to the growing backlash, veteran Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty came forward in support of Aamir Khan. Speaking in a recent interview with ABP, Shetty defended Aamir and condemned the persistent targeting of the Bollywood industry. “Humesha Bollywood ke peeche pade rehte hai,” Shetty stated, highlighting how the film industry has become a soft target for controversies. He emphasized that Bollywood has many individuals who are deeply nationalistic and are always eager to contribute positively to society and the nation. According to Shetty, while politicians are expected to address socio-political matters, Bollywood artists often find themselves unfairly judged regardless of their actions or intentions.
Shetty urged the public to move forward and not judge individuals based on their past actions. Referring specifically to the 2017 incident involving Aamir and the Turkish president, Shetty pointed out that geopolitical situations change over time and that the past should not dictate present judgments. He further added that in large social gatherings, celebrities often unknowingly pose for pictures with people they may not be familiar with, and such moments should not be blown out of proportion. He also touched on the double standards in public perception—where declining a photo can be seen as rude, while agreeing to it can become grounds for criticism.
Sitaare Zameen Par, which stars Genelia D’Souza and introduces ten debutant actors, is an adaptation of the Spanish film Champions. The film follows the story of a basketball coach, played by Aamir Khan, who is ordered by the court to train a team of neurodivergent children as part of his punishment. The emotional sports drama not only promises a heartwarming narrative but also continues Aamir’s tradition of championing socially relevant themes through cinema. The film is set for a theatrical release on June 20 and is already generating significant buzz due to both its powerful storyline and the controversies surrounding it.
Meanwhile, Suniel Shetty himself is back on the big screen with his latest release Kesari Veer, which hit cinemas on May 23. Directed by Prince Dhiman, the historical action drama also features Vivek Oberoi, Sooraj Pancholi, and Akanksha Sharma. The film marks another feather in Shetty’s cap as he continues to explore diverse roles in his career. He is also part of the star-studded ensemble cast of Welcome to the Jungle, which includes Bollywood heavyweights like Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Disha Patani, Raveena Tandon, and Lara Dutta.
As the release date for Sitaare Zameen Par approaches, fans and critics alike are waiting to see whether Aamir Khan can silence the controversies and recreate the magic that he is known for. With strong industry support and a compelling narrative, the film aims to not only entertain but also bring attention to the stories of neurodivergent individuals.
