US 46th President Joe Biden and his new strategies.

On 20th January 2021, Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States while Kamala Harris was sworn in as the Vice President . This was the 59th presidential inauguration, the ceremony took place on the West Front of the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Biden always mentioned that he stood for two things – workers who “built the country”, and values that can bridge its divisions. Biden had plans to work on several key issues such as coronavirus, jobs & money, race, climate change, foreign policy, health, immigration and education. 

The key issues was related to : 

  • Coronavirus: A national test and trace programme.
  • Jobs & money: Raise minimum wage and invest in green energy.
  • Race: Criminal justice reform, grants for minority communities
  • Climate change: Rejoin global climate accord
  •  Foreign policy: Restore America’s reputation
  • Health: Expand Obamacare
  • Immigration: Undo Trump’s policies
  • Education: Universal preschool, expand free college

 On the very first day of his work Biden signed around 17 executive orders out of which around 9 orders are direct reversal of policies enacted by the previous president Donald Trump.

The executive actions are as follows:

  • Installation of coronavirus response coordinator who will directly report to the president and will take charge of producing and distributing covid vaccine.
  • Mandatory mask-wearing as a 100days challenge to all the citizens.
  • Extended the Eviction Moratorium until 31st March.
  • Extension of pause on student loan payments and interest until 30th September for any American with federal student loan.
  • Halted construction of the border wall between the United States and Mexico.
  • Preserved Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
  • Rescinded the 1776 commission and directed all agencies to review actions to ensure racial equality.
  • Reversed the Travel Ban that restricted entry into US for passport holders from Muslim countries and African countries.
  • Prevention of workplace discrimination against the LGBTQ community.
  • Ensured a lawful and accurate census report which says even the non-citizens must be included in the census.
  • Rejoined the Paris climate Accord which was signed in 2016.
  • Cancelation of the Keystone XL pipeline that runs between Canada and the US as it poses threat to the environment and public health.
  • Revised Immigration policies.
  • Modernized Regulatory Review in order to avoid setting rules at the end moment.
  • Making the executive Branch ethical .
  • Oval office Redecoration.
  • Reversal of decision of removing the United States from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

According to the reports  four Indian – Americans by Joe Biden’s administration for senior positions in the crucial Department of Energy.  Tarak Shah is the first Indian- American appointed to serve as the Chief of Staff. Tanya Das will serve as the Chief of Staff in the Office of Science, Naryan Subramanian will serve as Legal Adviser in the Office of General Counsel, and Shuchi Talati will serve as the Chief of Staff in the Office of Fossil Energy.

On 25th January 2021 the new president vowed to leverage the U.S. government’s purchasing power as it is the world’s biggest buyer of goods and services, so that it can make way to strengthen domestic manufacturing and also to create markets for new technologies.
