9 killed & more than 10 seriously injured in fresh violence in Manipur, Death Toll rises to 109.

On 13th June 2023 around 10 PM in a horrifying turn of events, Manipur’s Kangpokpi district was gripped by tragedy as 9 individuals tragically lost their lives in a recent firing incident in Aigijang village. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, highlighting the urgent need for peace, security, and effective measures to prevent such devastating incidents. After nearly a month of violence in Manipur, the death toll has risen to approximately 98 individuals due to ongoing firing incidents across various parts of the state. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) released an official statement providing detailed information about the incident. According to the statement, a total of 4,014 fire-related cases were recorded, resulting in 310 injuries. Additionally, a significant recovery of stolen arms took place, with approximately 144 weapons found at the scene. Among the recovered arms were 29 self-loading rifles, 10 grenade launchers, 12 INSAS rifles, and 11 magazines

The initial outbreak of arson occurred in the Khamenlok area, which is adjacent to Aigejang village. From there, the violence spread to the neighboring areas in the north and northeast direction, as confirmed by an official. According to report, the violence was moving from the outskirts of Imphal East, where a mixed population of Kukis and Meities reside, towards the Kuki areas in Kangpokpi. It is noteworthy that while Aigejang village falls under the police jurisdiction of Imphal West, its revenue jurisdiction falls under the Kangpokpi district
