T Raja Singh Quits BJP Over Ramchander Rao’s Likely Appointment as Telangana President, Cites Disappointment Among Karyakartas
In a major political development in Telangana, BJP MLA T Raja Singh has resigned from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, citing disappointment over the possible appointment of senior leader N Ramchander Rao as the new state unit president. Singh, a prominent voice within the Telangana BJP, submitted his resignation on Monday, expressing strong dissatisfaction with the reported leadership decision, which he claims has deeply disheartened not only him but also lakhs of dedicated party workers, leaders, and voters across the state.
In his resignation letter addressed to BJP Telangana president and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Raja Singh stated that the speculated choice of Ramchander Rao as the next BJP Telangana president has come as a severe blow to the morale of many within the party. He emphasized that the move is difficult to accept and has caused a sense of betrayal among those who have consistently supported the party through all its ups and downs. Singh’s resignation reflects growing discontent among sections of the party over internal leadership changes, especially in the wake of upcoming organizational reshuffles.
The development comes a day after the BJP issued an official notification for the election of its Telangana state president. As per the notification, nominations will be accepted on June 30 from 2 PM to 4 PM at the party’s state headquarters, and candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nominations between 4 PM and 5 PM. The election will be overseen by Union Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje, who has been appointed as the Central Returning Officer. Former MLA Endala Lakshminarayana will serve as the state election officer for the internal polls.
G Kishan Reddy, who currently holds the dual responsibility of Union Minister and state unit president, was elected to the post in July 2023, replacing Bandi Sanjay Kumar. With Reddy now actively involved in the central government as Minister for Coal and Mines in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term, the BJP is gearing up to announce his successor to lead the party’s Telangana unit ahead of crucial political battles.
There has been intense speculation about the next state BJP chief, with names like Rajya Sabha MP K Laxman, Lok Sabha MPs Eatala Rajender and D Arvind, and former MLC N Ramchander Rao being widely discussed. While no official announcement has been made yet, party insiders suggest that caste equations and the Congress government’s emphasis on social justice—highlighted by their recent state-wide caste survey—may influence the final choice. There is a growing buzz that the BJP might lean towards appointing a leader from a backward community to counter the Congress’s narrative and consolidate its voter base among marginalized groups.
Raja Singh’s exit from the BJP underlines the internal tensions within the state unit and raises questions about party unity ahead of a pivotal leadership transition. His resignation letter not only highlights personal dissatisfaction but also signals possible unrest among grassroots workers and party loyalists, especially if decisions are made without broad consensus or adequate communication.
