Farmers call off 378 days long protest, receive government’s letter promising committee on MSP.

Farmers started to protest at three Delhi borders, i.e. Ghazipur, Sighu and Tikri from November 26 last year. After almost 14 months of severe agitation against the center’s three controversial farm laws, on thursday the farmers took back their call of the protest and will vacate the protest sites on december 11. They have started to close up from the singhi border.

“We have decided to suspend our agitation.We will hold a review meeting on January 15. If the government doesn’t fulfill its promises, we could resume our agitation”,said farmers leader Gurnam Singh Charuni in a meeting of Sanyukta Kisan Morcha at Delhi. Another leader called Balbir Singh Rajewal they would take out victory by marching on december 11 to their homes.

An announcement came from Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), which was a mass spread movement, they got a letter signed from the Central Government to consider their pending demands, which covers the cases filed against farmers and created a committee of Minimum Support Price(MSP).

After introducing the farms law bill last year, which is now canceled, the farmers began to protest at 3 Delhi points Ghazipur, Sighu and Tikri from last year Nov 26th. During this, the farmers asked for legal protection to Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops they grow.

The repeal of these legislations has been one of the key demands of a total of around 40 farmers at various different Delhi borders over a year.

On November 19 this year, in a special address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the major 3 laws were:

 The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce(promotion and facilitation) act.The farmers (empowerment and protection) agreement of price.Assurance and Farm Service Act and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.
