Vodafone Idea in process to shutdown 3G services and requested customers to switch to 4G

Vodafone Idea(VI) which merged on 31 August 2018. After the merge Vi came up with many plans such as

  • Offering 50GB additional for annual recharge 
  • It also gives offers on Zomato, MPL, Zee5 premium access, Unlimited talk time, Caller tunes, Chance to win gold vouchers, unlimited songs, ad free games and much more. 

The impact of merger which can be seen in the improvement of telecom services based on network speed and connectivity. After coming together the entity has become the world’s largest telecom operator.

         The company owns sufficient spectrum to compete with their competitor. Before merger Vodafone had a debt of 54crore(approx.). Vi decides to get better hold on their mobile payment, data, voice, digital wallets, cloud services, IoT, MIMO. The main and for most factor impacts the price strategy. 

     Vi recently came up with a new plan for their customers regarding upgradation of 3G networks to 4G network to provide fastest data speed using Vi GIGAnet technology. The strategy behind this step is to bridge a gap with Airtel and Jio.

The company had already announced in Delhi to update to 4G and 2G services will be shut down. As of now there is confusion to run or shut down 2G services keeping rural people as priority as well.

          Vodafone Idea managing director and CEO – Ravinder Takkar said, “As our integration nears completion, we have already expanded our 4G coverage to 1 billion Indian population who can now avail fastest data services pan- India “.

According to the population the company is currently having 11.6crore mobile broadband in total of which 10.4 crore are 4G users and rest are using 3G networks.

The company also said that the blueprint of introducing 5G technology into the market. The tariff can also increase as per the new strategies and the changes in these procedures.  

Vi was going through a loss phase in the last few quarters and recreated its strategies and came up with a strategy to focus on 16 key markets which accounts upto 94% of its revenue. Vi operations delays from Airtel and Jio as they provide the better coverage network. But the fact cannot be ignored that the merger of Vodafone and Idea had created a buzz in the telecom sector and a better competition in the upcoming days.

Thus Vi has already given an alert to their customers to upgrade their services via SMS.
