MS Dhoni to Undergo Muscle Tear Surgery in London

Speculation about MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL has intensified after he walked off the field with a ‘distraught’ look following a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru last week. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman and long-standing CSK skipper handed over the team reins to young Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the 2024 IPL season, leading many to wonder if this will be Dhoni’s last IPL season.

A new report from IANS, citing sources close to Dhoni, claims that he is likely to travel to London soon for treatment of a muscle tear injury. Dhoni is expected to take a call on his IPL future only after completing his treatment, which is anticipated to take around 5-6 months.

Former CSK players have weighed in on Dhoni’s potential retirement:

– Ambati Rayudu believes Dhoni should play one more season. Speaking to Star Sports, Rayudu said, “MS Dhoni should play one more season. He shouldn’t leave like this. He should play next season and win the IPL. He’s a once-in-a-generation player and human being.”

– Robin Uthappa expressed confidence that Dhoni will return for another season. On JioCinema, Uthappa stated, “I don’t think we have seen the last of MS. He is not someone who takes these things lightly. He will come back roaring for sure.”

– Matthew Hayden has a different perspective, suggesting that Dhoni’s recent knock against RCB might be his last in the IPL. On Star Sports, Hayden said, “I think this is it. I believe this will be the last time Dhoni will play. However, I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t continue in some official capacity with CSK.”

As fans and former players speculate, Dhoni’s decision will likely hinge on his recovery and the outcome of his treatment in London.
