Mystery illness” report in Eluru town in Andhra Pradesh

People in Eluru town, West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh had been falling ill all of sudden since Saturday and the reason behind their illness seems like a mystery. Initially on Saturday the cases were 55 in number while it kept increasing, now more than 300 people are sick and a 45years old person died with the symptoms of nausea and epilepsy on Sunday according to the reports. Officials after a visit to the affected area thought contaminated water or air pollution could be a reason behind this mysterious disease but after water sample testing they could not detect any kind of contamination.

The Health Minister A Kali Krishna Srinivas stated that the Patients blood samples and swabs were sent for lab testing and only those reports can reveal the reason behind the illness, though some blood samples test detected nothing like a viral infection and even their covid test reports were negative.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief who is the former Chief Minister of Andra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu has tweeted and demanded “an impartial, full-fledged inquiry into the incident, floods, cyclone or healthcare”. 

 The patients affected belonged to areas such as Ashok Nagar and Arundhatipet in Eluru town. India Express reported. The patients complained about burning eyes and symptoms like vomiting, headache and dizziness etc were observed.Few of them suffered bouts of seizures. According to the news agency, on Sunday the Health Minister A K K Srinivas visited the Government General Hospital (GGH) and looking at the situation he said there is no need to panic. He also mentioned that most of the victims had recovered and others were stable.

As per Mr. Srinivas’s statement, A team of doctors had been sent to assist and treat the patients in Eluru, setting-up medical camp, arrangement of additional beds in the hospital for the patients and door to door survey are being done to tackle and monitor the situation. The current Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to visit Eluru and then to hold a meeting with the district officials.
