Samsung surpasses Xiaomi as top smartphone maker.

Samsung surpasses Xiaomi as top smartphone maker.

In 2017, Xiaomi was crowned as top seller in the under-Rs.10000 phone segment. As per the CounterPoint Research, LTE- capable smartphone’s contribution was 96% of smartphone shipment with fastest-growing brands in the country such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Gionee.

According to IDC (International Data Corporation), the smartphone market in India saw a growth of 20% in second quarter of 2018 as Xiaomi retained to lead. Xiaomi contributed around 56% of the shipments in online space while it contributed 33% of shipments through offline channels.

In the third quarter of 2019 Xiaomi’s share witnessed a downfall. Now in the third quarter of 2020 Samsung Surpasses Xiaomi and holds the crown as top smartphone maker by accumulating a share of 24% which is marginally higher than 23% share of Xiaomi.Covid-19 has caused manufacturing constraints and also affected the supply chain, so this could be a reason why Xiaomi’s position has dropped down to second.

Samsung has been smart enough to capture the market with its marketing strategies and new launches which built a strong base for its online presence. However it is expected that Xiaomi shall soon come back with a stronger and efficient strategy inorder to regain its position.
